"Dear Ben..." St. John's Norwood Parish, Chevy Chase, Maryland, United States

Cantate Chamber Singers / Gisele Becker.

"Dear Ben..." - Correspondence and works by composers with whom Britten corresponded, including Shostakovich, Alma Mahler, Imogen Holst, Percy Grainger, Aaron Copland and Michael Tippett. Plus, a winning composition from Cantate's 9th Biennial Young Composers' Contest using words from Britten's dedication of the Simple Symphony will be performed.

The final concert in Cantate's celebration of Britten's centenary will further expand the scope and influence of Britten by exploring correspondence between Britten and other composers (read by a narrator) and compositions by those composers. We will also unveil the winner of our 9th Biennial Young Composers' Contest with a piece which uses Britten's words in his introduction to the Simple Symphony as the libretto.
